Berkner school nurse Janet Rambo, R.N. has been selected as one of the
"Dallas-Fort Worth Great One Hundred Nurses" for 2008. The panel of
professionals chose her from among hundreds of nominations received this year based entirely on the contents of the letters received (not knowing the names, titles, or employers of any of the nominees). She will be honored at the Meyerson Center on May 12 sponsored by the Texas Nurses Association (Districts 3 and 4) and the Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Nurse Administrators' Forum at the 18th annual celebration. Congratulations!!

BERKNER GYMNASTICS TEAM ADVANCES TO REGIONALS
The Berkner Gymnastics Team finished 3rd at the District meet at Highland Park.
The team consist of: Captain Megan Romanowski, Melissa Homan, Devon Irvin and Emily Rohrer.
Valut: Melissa Homan 7th place and Megan Romanowski 9th place.
Bars: Megan Romanowski 5th place and Melissa Homan 6th place.
Beam: Megan Romanowski 6th place, Melissa Homan 7th place (tie), Devon Irvin 9th place
Floor: Melissa Homan 7th place, Megan Romanowski 9th place, Devon Irvin 10th place.
All Around Medals: Megan Romanowski 5th place and Melissa Homan 6th place.
Senior Paul Chepregi qualified in every event and took home a strong 3rd place finish.
Regionals will be held at Highland Park April 8th and April 9th.

Berkner Color Guard won First Place at the Regional Competition! They competed in the SA Division and won with a score of 80.25.

Tuesday April 1 and Wednesday April 2 the girls golf team competed in the District 9-5A golf tournament. The Lady Rams placed 5th out of the 12 teams entered in the tournament with totals each day of 392 and 372. Individually the team made an impressive showing with Sophomore Jessica Ngui placing 8th place overall out of the 70+ players entered with scores of 79 and 82. Esther Kang pulled in 10th place honors posting scores of 89 and 78. Jessica was also awarded the 2nd spot individually to advance to the regional tournament in Waco April 22 and 23rd. Congratulations Lady Rams to a great end of the season finish.

Art works from these students were accepted into the TVAA High School Juried Competition. TVAA receives around 4000 pieces from all over the metroplex but only selects 300 pieces for the show. We are very proud of our students' work being accepted to such a prestigious competition. 40% of our art students who entered were selected for the show.
The show will be on display now until March 22nd in the gallery space in the Visual Arts Building at the University of Texas at Dallas, located at University Parkway and Campbell Road in Richardson. Parking is available in the lot next to the building immediately north of the Visual Arts Building.
This is a great opportunity to see highly imaginative, disciplined work from all over the region from talented young artists...did I mention they always serve refreshments at the reception.
Awards Reception will be held March 22 from 2:00- 4pm awards presentation at 3:30

The Berkner Speech and Debate Team would like to congratulation Chelsea Conkel and Noah Jaffe for finishing 2nd and 3rd at the Prestonwood 4 Way Rotary Club Speech Contest. Chelsea won $200 scholarship and Noah won $100. Congratulations on a great job debaters!

BERKNER ACADEMIC DECATHLON TEAM
ADVANCES TO STATE
Congratulations to Berkner High School who has advanced to the state competition for Academic Decathlon. Team members include Justin Jimenez, Robert Deel, Bill Mikesell, Abir Liben, Noura Liben, Amit Goyal, Monica Tong, Rebecca York and Robert McCarthy with Tanya Gregson and Dean Webb as coaches. Individual Medals include:
- Justin Jimenez: 3rd Language & Literature
- Bill Mikesell: 3rd Interview, 1st Speech, 2nd Music
- Abir Liben: 2nd Speech
- Rebecca York: 2nd Speech, 2nd Science and 2nd Language & Literature
- Robert McCarthy: 1st Speech
Team came in second for Super Quiz Relay.
The team will compete at Plano East High School on February 29-March 2. Everyone needs to come to support them on Saturday afternoon, March 1 for the Super Quiz competition.

BERKNER DEBATE TEAM WINS AGAIN!
The Berkner Debate team had a very successful weekend at the Princeton High School Speech and Debate Tournament. Ashlee Rood and Noah Jaffe placed 2nd in Public Forum Debate with a 3-0 record including a victory over Denton Guyer's 2007 National Qualifying team. Zaynab Suleman and Afrin Ari placed had an outstanding tournament winning 3rd place with a 3-0 record with impressive victories over Richardson HS and Denton HS. The next tournament for the debate team will be National Forensic League District Tournament in February. This tournament will determine national qualifiers which will be held at Las Vegas in June.

Berkner Grad Leads Winning Stanford Team at Engineering Conference!

Ricky Villarreal of Garland led a team of Stanford University undergraduates who won a national engineering competition for an electric device they designed to prevent blood clots during air travel.
Villarreal, a junior biomechanical engineering major, joined his seven teammates in sharing $5,000 after placing first in the AHETEMS Design Competition at the 31st national conference of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) in Philadelphia. AHETEMS (Advancing Hispanic Excellence in Technology, Engineering, Math and Science) is the educational foundation of SHPE.

GO RAMS WRESTLING TEAM!
Berkner Wrestling team participated in the annual TRI STATE TOURNAMENT at Lake Highlands High School. 24 teams from Texas and Oklahoma competed in the two day event. Berkner High School was well represented, both on and off the mat, with our athletes. In the end, Berkner took home 6 medals……4 fourth place finishes and 2 second place finishes. The wrestling team’s next event is this Saturday at 9am at the LH Six Way.

FRESHMAN CHEER SQUAD
AWARD-WINNING
The 2007-08 Berkner Freshman Cheer Squad attended a National Cheerleading Association (NCA) Spirit Camp at SMU May 28-31. Working extremely hard, the squad did an outstanding job and brought home several awards-
Herkie T.E.A.M. Award - named after NCA Found L.R. Herkimer and is presented to the one squad showing true team spirit, unity and leadership throughout the camp.
Stunt Smart Award - is presented to squads demonstrating excellent NCA safety standards in spotting, stunting and technique.
Champion Chant Winner - squads perform any chant learned during the week and demonstrate motion technique and overall performance and compete in various categories on the last day of camp.
Bid to NCA National Competition - national bids are awarded to squads exemplifying positive team qualities determined by the NCA staff. The NCA Championships are the world's largest cheerleading events, bringing in more than 20,000 of the nation's best cheerleaders.
6 Superior Evaluation Ratings - Highest evaluation rating give to teams displaying strong technique, leading the crowd well, and performing with no noticeable mistakes.
3 All-American Cheerleaders - Shelby Jaccar, Shae Tomlinson and Peyton Millington name to the All-American Team - the most prestigious individual recognition in cheerleading give to individuals who exemplify the best all-around cheerleading skills and judged on motion technique, jumps, tumbling, spirit and enthusiasm, voice projection and overall crowd appeal.

Rampage Staffers for 2007-08
Congratulations to those chose as members of the award-winning Rampage for the upcoming year. Through an application process (including writing samples, English Teacher recommendations, and approvals by this year's editor-in-chief Mai Anh Poham and sponsor, Mr. Jarred Goodall, the staff went through the process of selecting the new staff members. The was the first time selections were made in this manner.

November 8, 2007: Richardson Berkner High School Head Coach receives “Coach of the Week” honor for football program
Jim Ledford, head football coach at Richardson Berkner High School, has been named the U.S. Army/Dallas Cowboys Coach of the Week for the high level of service he brings to his team, school and community through hard work and dedication to young athletes. In recognition of Coach Ledford’s award, the Berkner High School football program will receive a $2000 grant provided by the U.S. Army and Gene and Jerry Jones Family Charities.
